Ahead of the busy travel season, WalletHub has come out with its list of top destinations to consider.

“What we did is that we compared 100 of the most populated metro areas, the MSAs, across six categories: travel costs and hassles, local costs, attractions, weather, activities, and safety,” WalletHub Analyst Chip Lupo said.

The top US destination was Orlando, with plenty of hotels to compete for your money and attractions to keep you busy.

Cincinnati ranked at number 6 overall, with the amount of music venues, swimming pools and food festivals per capita.

Columbus came in at 23, and the Dayton Metro area ranked 30 overall.

Dayton was carried by low costs for hotels, gas prices, and the average price for a two-person meal.

Wherever you decide to visit, WalletHub says it’s best to do your research.

“The further out you go, the earlier you can get better rates for hotels and flights. So always plan ahead,” Lupo said. “Then, of course, set yourself a travel budget, something separate from your daily budget, and whether you have a separate fund for that, and then start budgeting out your travel expenses.”

WalletHub says nearly half of Americans expect to take more than one big summer trip.
