It has a long history of serving Xenia since the 1840s, according to its website.
“The store started as an Optometrist and variety store and became a jewelry store in 1879,” the store said. “We have since added a boutique in 2015, along with several new product lines.”
News Center 7’s Malik Patterson said it began with the Tiffany family. It transitioned to Bob Swigart, who had worked for Tiffany’s since he was 14 years old. He passed it down to his son, Tom.
Part of the reason it lasted so long was treating everyone like family.
Tom told Patterson that he did the engravings and other work that you would not find anywhere else.
The store had Customer Appreciation Day last week. Tom explained what that meant.
“It’s pretty emotional,” he said. “And you know, how often am I going to see him now, you know, when you see him coming in on, you know, a daily or weekly basis, or just stopping in to have a cup of coffee with us. I mean, yeah, that’s been fantastic.”
Tom said that when it was time to sell, he had conversations with other businesses. He said the owners have a similar vision in mind.
“There’s another jewelry store that’s going to be coming in, which is another family-owned business,” he said. “So, I hope they continue on the tradition and take care of the clientele that we’ve had in the past several years.”
Tom will be in the store on New Year’s Eve one last time to greet anyone who wants to visit.
