Librarians at Washington-Centerville Public Library are using the Library’s Maker Space and 3D printers to create hundreds of mask strap extenders, or ear savers, to donate to local hospitals, doctors offices and other health organizations.

“Front line health care workers are wearing surgical masks day after day. The behind-the-ear irritation caused by wearing a mask for hours on end was a problem we knew we could solve using 3D printing technology,” said Bill Menker, Patron Services Manager for the Library in a written statement.
The library has already distributed ear savers to Miami Valley Hospital South and Kettering Health Respiratory Therapy.
Christlyn Johnston, Director of Operations for Miami Valley South, said the nursing staff is appreciative of the library's efforts.
“The nurses tell me the mask extenders are real ‘ear savers'," Johnston said.
The physical libraries may be closed, but Washington-Centerville Public Library continues to offer a wealth of knowledge through online collections, resources and opportunities to connect with others.
