Accumulating snow continues tonight; Timing, how much, what to expect

The Miami Valley is seeing accumulating snow continue to push through with rates up to 1 inch-per hour.

News Center 7 will have Storm Center 7 team weather coverage throughout the night and on News Center 7 at 11.

A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for nearly the entire Miami Valley until 1 a.m. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for only Auglaize and Mercer counties in Ohio and Randolph County in Indiana.

Timing: Heavy bands of snow will continue through the evening. Snow begins to taper off around 10 p.m.

Amounts: Snowfall rates are now expected up to 1 inch per hour and that will bring us higher snowfall totals. Most of the area will be between 3-5 inches. Areas north of Sidney will see totals between 2-4 inches. A lot of this will be on the grass, but some slick spots could develop on the roads after sunset on Friday.

Impacts: The main concern will be the possibility of slick roads on Friday evening and Friday night. By then, temperatures will be dropping. If snow is still falling, it may then stick to the roads. Any remaining moisture could also freeze on untreated roads as temperatures drop to the low 20s overnight.
