Dayton beats Rhode Island on the road

Kingston, RI — The Dayton Flyers went on the road and earned a tough win, 63-57, at Rhode Island Monday night in Kingston, RI.

Toumani Camara led four UD players in double figures with a game-high 17 points while Koby Brea added 12. Mustapha Amzil had 11 points, including a three-pointer that put UD ahead for good, 57-54, with 2:20 remaining. R.J. Blakney added 10 points. The Flyers made 11 of 24 from three-point range. Dayton improves 18-8 overall, 10-3 in the Atlantic 10.

The game was tied 24-24 at halftime, neither team shot well. Dayton made only 24 percent of their shots in the first half while Rhode Island hit 32 percent. It was tied 34-34 when Camara’s dunk and three-pointer put UD ahead, 39-34. Kobe Elvis and Koby Brea each added a trey to extend it to 45-34. Brea buried his fourth three of the game to give the Flyers their largest lead of the game, 48-36.

Rhode Island responded by going on a 12-4 run to cut Dayton’s advantage to 52-48. Amzil’s two free throws increased it to 54-48 but the Rams scored six straight points to tie it 54-54 with over three minutes remaining. Amzil buried a three-pointer with 2:20 left to put UD up for good, 57-54. Amzil and Malachi Smith sealed the win by combining to make six of eight free throws.

Dayton’s next game will be Saturday afternoon when they travel to Philadelphia, PA to play the Saint Joseph’s Hawks. Pre-game coverage begins at 12 noon, tip-off is at 1 pm and Flyer Feedback follows the game on the home of the Flyers; 1290 and 95-7, WHIO.
