Two counterfeit $20 bills discovered at Dayton bowling alley

DAYTON — A bartender at an East Fourth Street bowling alley received two counterfeit $20 bills Tuesday evening, according to a Dayton police report.

An officer was dispatched to Congress Lanes around 9:49 p.m.

The bartender told the officer a regular customer bought drinks for himself and several others and paid with two $20 bills, according to the report.

The bartender reportedly thought the customer was acting odd and noted that he made a comment about getting the money from the ATM.

Shortly after, a different customer asked the bartender to break a $100 bill, read the report.

The bartender gave the second customer five $20 bills, including the two that the regular customer paid with, according to the report.

The regular customer reportedly left after the bartender broke the $100 bill.

The second customer exited the bar, but reportedly returned shortly after and told the bartender that she gave him two fake bills.

The bartender pen-tested the two bills — which were printed on glossy paper and had “replica” and “this is a replica” stamped on them — and she determined the bills were fake, according to the report.

The bartender reportedly told police that the regular customer’s odd behavior made her believe that he knew the bills were counterfeit.
