Retired Greenville police sergeant dies at 78 years old

GREENVILLE — A local police department is mourning the passing of a retired police sergeant.

Retired Greenville Police Sergeant Roy Harrison, 78, passed away early Monday, Feb. 10, at Wayne Health Care, according to his online obituary.

Sergeant Harrison retired from the Greenville Police Department in March 1998. He served as an arson investigator, firearms instructor, a crime scene investigator, and worked with the FBI on cases.

Harrison was also a bodyguard for former Vice President Dan Quayle during his visit to Darke County, his obituary said.

“We are saddened to share the loss of Retired Sergeant Roy Harrison. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Sharon and their entire family,” said the Greenville Police Department on social media.

The family will receive friends from Monday, Feb. 17, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.

The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville.
