First meteor shower of 2019 set for early January

The Quadrantid Meteor shower is the first major meteor shower of 2019.

It will peak the night of Jan. 3. The best time to view them would be after midnight until dawn on Jan. 4, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs said.

The meteors will radiate out from the northeastern sky, after midnight just below the big dipper.

While the peak window of seeing these meteors are brief, it’s possible that the meteor caught on the video shown above may have been from this meteor shower.

It is unclear as to which object the Quadrantid’s come from, as two studies of the Quadrantids may come from the parent bodies of either the asteroid 2003 EHI which may be the same object as comet C/1490 Y1.
