3 people climb onto porch roof during fire in Dayton

DAYTON — Firefighters and medics were called to a fire in Dayton on Tuesday.

Around 7:55 p.m. Dayton Fire Department was called to the first block of North Jersey Street for reports of a fire, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch.

Three people made it out of the house, climbing through windows to wait on the porch roof.

One person had jumped off by the time crews got there, according to District Fire Chief Nick Judge.

Bystanders and police grabbed an extension ladder to help the other two down safely.

Jones said all three people denied going to the hospital, but he does believe they are going to be okay.

He also said the home appeared to be vacant.

Fire crews had to break down the door that was boarded up to do a sweep and make sure they had to get out.

“We don’t have a cause yet you got occupied houses next door, people’s hard-earned money at risk because of a vacant house next door - we encourage people if they see suspicious behavior going in and out of these vacant houses to call the city,” Judge said.

Jones said if the fire continues to spread throughout the night they may order an emergency demolition and put the fire out that way.

We will continue to follow this story.
