Fire in Carlisle destroys home, displaces 5

UPDATE @ 9:15 p.m.

A family of five is displaced tonight after a fire destroyed their home.

“Our crew arrived to find it fully engulfed,” said Carlisle Fire Chief Krista Wyatt. “The house is a total loss.”

The residents, a mother and four children, were not home around 6:15 p.m. when several callers reported the blaze to the single-family home in the 600 block of Robert Place.

Six departments responded to the blaze, including Carlisle, Franklin Twp., Madison Twp. and the Miami Valley Fire District, in addition to Clearcreek and German townships, Wyatt said.

One issue that impacted firefighters is that the street is divided, so crews had to make their way around to the other side of the street, Wyatt said.

A second difficulty is water, the chief said, because it has to be trucked in. There are no fire hydrants for about 90 percent of the community, which uses well water.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by a Warren County fire investigation team, and Wyatt said it’s not clear whether the fire started in the house or outside the home.

The American Red Cross has been called to assist the family.
