DAYTON — The Dayton FOP is working to raise funds to purchase a new K9 for one their officers after the death of his companion, K9 Kimbo.

“Our goal is to raise funds to purchase a police K9 to give Officer Cagle an opportunity to be the handler he never got the chance to be,” the go fund me page stated.

Cagle and K9 Kimbo completed their state K9 certification training Nov. 30, 2020, and just a few short weeks later on Dec. 21, K9 Kimbo began having extreme multiple cluster seizures, which required emergency care.

Neurologists and veterinarians said that it was a rare aggressive form of seizures that was unable to be controlled or managed.

The estimated cost for a new K9 is $8,000, which includes a 2 year health guarantee.

According to the go fund me page, the police department already exceeded their goal and raised $8,705 as of Monday evening.

The goal has since been raised to $11,000 which will cover the purchase of three ballistic vests for the police department’s newest K9 officers, K9 Rio, K9 Cory, and the one that will be purchased with the money from the fundraiser.
