President Trump signed a $900 billion COVID-19 relief bill on Sunday that extended federal unemployment benefits. Due to the timing of when the bill was signed, those who file for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Program will go without PUA benefits this week.
PUA allows people who are independent contractors, self-employed, part-time workers or are normally ineligible for unemployment benefits to receive jobless benefits.

14 million Americans that filed for PUA got their last checks last week after funding from the CARES Act in the spring ran out.
The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services said they are waiting on guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor to implement the bill’s provisions and help those impacted in Ohio.
“As soon as we receive detailed guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor, we will implement the new provisions as quickly as possible so we can assist those in need,” said the ODJFS said in a statement. “System programming will be needed for this undertaking. We ask for everyone’s patience as we undertake that effort. Ohio stands ready assist those in need as quickly as we can.”
