SPRINGFIELD — A man who shot two people at a Springfield apartment complex Friday before turning the gun on himself was also the suspect in an earlier double-shooting at a gas station, according to police.

Aaron Minerd, 35, of Springfield, died from the self-inflicted wound at the apartment building in the 300 block of South Burnett Road Friday morning. But before Minerd died, he shot two people at a Speedway gas station, then shot two women at the apartment building, investigators told News Center 7′s Jenna Lawson Monday.

The first shooting was reported around 1 a.m. Aug. 14, at the Speedway station in the 2900 block of Derr Road. Police said the victims, a 19-year-old employee of the gas station and a 22-year-old man were hospitalized after the shooting but are expected to survive.

Surveillance video obtained by News Center 7 shows a man, identified as Minerd, fire multiple shots from outside the convenience store through a glass door. A woman later approaches him before he starts to walk away.

While investigating the Speedway shooting, police said they identified Minerd as a suspect and attempted to locate him. Officers were at the apartment complex he lived at on South Burnett Road around 5 a.m. when police heard gunshots from outside the building.

Police said Minerd shot two women outside the building before taking his own life. Both women have been treated for their injuries and released from the hospital, police said.

A second piece of surveillance video obtained Monday shows a person identified as Minerd walking outside the apartment complex in the parking lot. The shooter then opens fire on two people who appear to be hugging near a car in the parking lot.

Investigators said they have not identified a potential motive for the shooting spree and have not found any connections between Minerd and the four victims.
