Man killed in Harrison Twp. double shooting ID’d

A man killed Friday night in a double shooting has been identified this morning as 26-year-old Shawn Benson of Dayton, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Benson’s preliminary cause of death was not released.

Police said Benson and an 18-year-old man were shot around 7 p.m. Friday inside an apartment in the 1900 block of Palisades Drive.

The name and condition of the second gunshot victim has not been released, but police Friday night said he was shot in the leg and was expected to recover.

A woman who said she is the longtime fiancee of Benson’s father said a candlelight prayer vigil is set for 7 p.m. Monday at the Northland Village Apartments. She said Benson was well loved and is survived by small children and numerous siblings.

Deputies said a double shooting has left one man dead and another receiving treatment for a gunshot wound.

In a release, deputies said two men were found with gunshot wounds at the Northland Village Apartments in the 1900 block of Palisades Drive around 7 p.m. Friday.

Two men, aged 26 and 18, were found inside the apartment with gunshot wounds and were taken to Miami Valley Hospital. The 26-year-old man was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The 18-year-old victim remains hospitalized, but his condition was not released by deputies.

The identity of the deceased victim will not be released until family has been notified.

UPDATE @ 9:45 p.m.:

One man was shot in the leg and a second gunshot victim suffered much more serious injury tonight in a double shooting.

The shooting was reported around 7 p.m. inside an apartment in the 1900 block of Palisades Drive. Yellow crime scene tape is blocking off the area while Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigate.

Deputies are interviewing potential witnesses to the shooting and have not released the names of any victims or suspects, who were last seen leaving in a vehicle.

FIRST REPORT

At least two people were shot tonight on Palisades Drive.

The double shooting was reported around 7 p.m. in the 1900 block of Palisades Drive.

One of the gunshot victims was more seriously wounded than the second, and both were taken to Miami Valley Hospital, according to initial reports.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
