CENTERVILLE, Ohio — The city of Centerville announced Monday morning that after being postponed for several months, the city’s annual Clean Sweep is happening.
In 2019, Centerville’s Waste Collection took in 438 tons of bulk waste in one week. That’s a month’s worth of garbage said Public Works Director Pat Turnbull.
This year, Turnbull said they’re expecting an even bigger number. “When we postponed Clean Sweep in April as the COVID-19 pandemic was unfolding, we had a rush of calls into the office asking when we would be able to reschedule it for,” Turnbull said.
Mike Breen joined his neighbors in setting big items he can’t normally through in the trash on the curb. “I don’t really know what it all is, Breen said, “It’s just stuff we’ve accumulated over the past few months.”
From couches to mattresses, even a piano, we saw it all ready to be picked up by Centerville Waste Collection. This year, instead of just one week, Clean Sweep has been split into two weeks to allow crews extra time for pick up.
“Because people have been stuck at home, we felt like there might be a lot more house cleaning than normal,” Turnbull said.
Crews will pick up any left-over items in the orange section on Tuesday, August 4. On Wednesday, areas in the yellow section will have their pickup day.
For those living in the blue section, your Clean Sweep pick up is Tuesday, August 11. Neighborhoods in the green section will need to have their items on the curb by 7a.m. Thursday, August 13th.
