Chaminade Julienne’s game against Cincinnati Hughes was cancelled following COVID-19 issues within the CJ program, according to a school spokesperson.

“Our away game against Hughes, originally scheduled for this evening, has been cancelled due to matters related to COVID-19. While we are saddened that our student athletes will not be able to perform this evening, we continue to make health and safety a priority and are excited that Hughes quickly found another opponent to compete against,” CJ Athletic Director Anthony Turner said in a media release.

Hughes’ replacement game will be against Dayton Christian Friday night at 7 p.m. Dayton Christian had previously been scheduled to play the Landmark Eagles, a Butler County based team, however that game had been cancelled earlier in the week.

Dayton Public Schools announced Dunbar’s Sept. 10 game against Ross High School and its Sept. 17 game against Fort Loramie had been cancelled after one player tested positive from Dunbar High School.

Practices at Dunbar also are cancelled for 10 days.

“Due to mitigation measures in place, such as social distancing, masking and frequent handwashing, other players can continue to attend school,” said Dayton Public Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Lolli.

Greenon’s game against West Liberty Salem was cancelled Wednesday, following COVID cases and quarantines involving West Liberty-Salem’s team, district Superintendent Kraig Hissong said in a Facebook post.

Hissong said about 33 percent of the football team is absent from classes due to positive cases and people deemed close contacts.

“This decision is twofold. First, we want to ensure that we try to eliminate the spread of COVID throughout our teams remaining players and from Greenon’s team. Second, we hope that by pausing the season at this point, we can restart on next Monday and be able to field a full team for the remainder of the season,” Hissong said.

Football practices for West Liberty-Salem will also be cancelled through Monday.

Greenon was scheduled to play a replacement game against Worthington Christian Friday, however reports indicate that game has been cancelled as well.
