NASCAR’s Ray Ciccarelli to leave at season’s end because of Confederate flag policy, other changes

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

Racecar driver Ray Ciccarelli will be leaving NASCAR at the end of the current season saying that he does not agree with the direction the group is heading.

NASCAR officials recently announced it will allow on-track workers to take a knee during the national anthem, CBS Sports reported. The sport will also ban the Confederate flag at races.

Ciccarelli’s announcement on social media came after Bubba Wallace debuted his new car that says Black Lives Matter.

Ciccarelli removed the post a short time later, Sports Illustrated reported.

But CBS Sports reported it as saying:

“Well its been a fun ride and dream come true but if this is the direction Nascar is headed we will not participate after 2020 season is over , i don’t believe in kneeling during Anthem nor taken ppl right to fly what ever flag they love. I could care less about the Confederate Flag but there are ppl that do and it doesn’t make them a racist all you are doing is (expletive) one group to cater to another and i ain’t spend the money. we are to participate in any political BS!! So everything is for SALE!!”

Ciccarelli is part of the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series. He has only had one top-10 finish in the past three years during the 2019 Corrigan Oil 200, Sports Illustrated reported.
