LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas police announced they have arrested three people and have charged two others for the shooting that injured two people.
The shooting in May 2021 was at the Pavillion Center Pool, where there were between 150 and 200 people attending a private party when multiple fights began both inside and outside, The Las Vegas Sun reported.
Two people had shrapnel injuries during the shooting, described as “minor,” but police warned it could have been worse, KTNV reported. “I want you to look around. You have a high school, a community center, a church, a neighborhood,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Capt. Fred Haas said during a news conference Tuesday. “The high school and the community center both received impacts, as well as the pool facility.”
During the fight, police said more than 150 rounds were fired. Police told The Las Vegas Sun that eleven guns were confiscated over the course of the investigation.
“That is unacceptable by any standard. We will not accept violence in this community. We will not accept this type of behavior in this community,” Haas said. “We will go to the end of the Earth and be relentless in this investigation to make sure that does not happen again and the people that did this are held responsible for their actions.”
During the news conference, Haas identified the suspects in the case as Demarea Wesley, Terrance Jefferson, Trayvon Ward, Michael Simmons and Cedric Sweeting. Police have three men in custody but told KVVU they are asking for the public’s help in tracking down Michael Simmons and Cedric Sweeting.
The five suspects face around 50 felony charges, KTNV reported. There are also charges pending against the party’s promoter.
