MARQUETTE, Mich. — A multi-vehicle accident with a moose left two people injured Friday night, investigators said.
A 55-year-old man was driving a Toyota pickup north when he hit the moose in its head, WLUC reported. The moose's body swung around, hitting the side of the truck and smashing its windshield. The driver pulled over to the side of the road. He was not injured.
Moments later, a 50-year-old woman driving southbound in a Dodge pickup slowed down after seeing an object in the road and collided with the moose, which was in her lane, investigators said. The driver veered around the moose, causing the truck to slide sideways into a ditch and flip over twice, landing on its wheels. The driver was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated by first responders.
Officials said the driver and 48-year-old passenger were taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver suffered head and neck injuries. The passenger had minor injuries.
It is unclear if the moose survived the incident.
