PICKAWAY COUNTY — An Ohio man was hospitalized after a zebra bit him over the weekend.
Sunday around 5:30 p.m. the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 6900 block of Darby Road, according to our news partners at WBNS.
A deputy said he got on the scene and was led to a field where the man attacked was lying on the ground, according to an incident report.
While the deputy used his cruiser to block the victim, a large male zebra charged at the driver’s side door and was acting very hostile, according to WBNS.

Another deputy on scene said the zebra was acting aggressively because it was protecting several female zebras that were in the field.
The deputy used his air horn to scare the zebra enough to get out of his cruiser.
Deputies were told by the family who owned the zebra they could shoot the animal if it came closer.
A deputy can be heard yelling at the zebra before a shot rings out, and the zebra falls dead.
The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. His condition is unknown at this time.
Zebras are not considered dangerous wild animals by the Ohio Department of Agriculture and are allowed to be owned in the state.
