Richmond Officer Aaron Stevens is ‘Armed with Respect’

RICHMOND — Aaron Stevens is “Armed with Respect” as a police officer and school board member in Richmond.

The 30-year veteran officer is the subject of WHIO’s James Brown’s latest installment about someone who is “Making a Difference.”

While many in the community laud Stevens as “a good guy” who looks for ways to resolve problems without handcuffs, he almost didn’t make it past the first few months of his policing career.

A crash left Stevens with severe trauma and doctors said he literally died and was brought back to life.

Some say by saving Stevens’ life, those doctors helped save the Richmond community.

“I’m invested in this community, because this community has invested in me,” Stevens said. “If everybody were cynical, you have no optimism and without optimism, you have no hope … You learn how to resolve problems by talking them through.”
