Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting in emergency room area of Columbus hospital

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A suspect was killed by police at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital after an incident in the emergency room area of the hospital, Columbus Police said.

Officers called for backup at the hospital, where the suspect was being treated after passing out. The suspect had warrants out for their arrest for domestic violence and weapons under disability, police said.

The shooting happened shortly after 2:20 p.m. and no one but the suspect was hurt.

“The building is safe,” police said in a statement.

Officers from Columbus Police Department and the St. Ann’s security team were with the suspect when the shooting happened.

The suspect’s name was not released and its unclear how many officers may have fired their weapons.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to conduct the investigation into the shooting.
