UPDATE: Woman shot in neck in Springfield critically hurt

SPRINGFIELD — A woman taken to the hospital after being shot in Springfield was in critical condition Monday afternoon, a hospital spokesperson said.

Springfield officers were dispatched to a home the 1100 block of W. Jefferson Street around 6 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting.

Police found a 24-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her neck. She first was taken to Mercy Health’s Springfield Regional Medical Center, but was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by medical helicopter.

Details of how the woman was shot were not immediately available in the police report. There also was not any information about any potential suspects in the case.

Springfield police are continuing to investigate the shooting.
