The tanker truck had just left Cargill and was heading westbound on Needmore Road, coming to the intersection of Webster Street where it had a green light.

That’s when it was hit, leading to a huge emergency response.

A Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy found other drivers trying to help.

Everyone on scene realized that smoke and flames were flaring up and they didn’t know what substance was in the tanker truck.

One deputy sees thick clouds of smoke and the other deputy’s body cam catches flames forming around the devastated trucks. With the firefighters rolling in to douse those flames, the deputies begin gathering information about the crash.

Firefighters doused the flames and learned the tanker was carrying corn syrup. Deputies passed on their initial findings to supervisors.

The crash took the life of the box trucks driver, 36-year-old Shawn Brown.

The tanker truck driver did not suffer serious injuries.

Family and friends of Brown built a large memorial to honor him at the intersection where the crash happened.

Investigators know that he went through a red light, how the crash happened, but they don’t yet know why the crash happened.
