A car smashed into a parked train on South Vandemark Road early Monday, killing the 15-year-old girl and injuring the man in the car.
McKenzie Jones, of Sidney, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the railroad crossing south of Campbell Road.
The male victim was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital suffering from serious injuries.
The accident occurred at about 3 a.m. Sunday. Sidney police, responding to reports of a crash involving a train and a car, found a red car partially pinned underneath a CSX train.
Police said the train was not moving at the time of the crash. The car had been heading south on Vandemark before it smashed into the train.
What caused the accident has not been established, but eyewitnesses said there are no crossing gates at South Vandemark Road, only reflective signs before the crossing to alert drivers.
Jones's body was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office. The name of the male has not been released, but police said they believe the two were related.
The crossing remained closed for at least four hours while CSX and Sidney police investigated the accident.
No other accidents of this nature have been reported at the crossing, a Sidney police sergeant said.
