Springboro students come together to create “blessing box,” give food to those in need

SPRINGBORO — A Springboro High School athletic team is stepping up to help those in need within the community.

In downtown Springboro, a blessing box has been added near Cross Cree Hydroponics. The box holds canned food, as well as fresh vegetables; all of which are available 24/7 for anyone in search of their next meal to take.

The box was built by the cheerleading team at Springboro High School.

Springboro High School’s cheerleading coach Alison Lidic brought the idea, inspired by Cross Cree Hydroponics owner Tami Kincer, of getting involved to her team.

“I was looking for ways to get the cheerleaders involved in the community; just to get them out of only going around, asking for donations all the time and seeing how they could give back,” Lidic told News Center 7′s Kayla Courvell.

The team was excited to get involved and lend a helping hand to the community.

“I think there’s a need for it anywhere, just people in need of food that don’t want to say it out loud. They can come here, it’s not too busy, and they can take it and not feel embarrassed,” Springboro cheerleader Audrey Hobbs said.

Lidic said she wanted to get the team to work together to do something for someone else. Now, the blessing box can be used by the community for years to come.
