Police: Kettering man shoots at car on I-75 near Cincinnati

The Kettering man arrested for allegedly firing a gun at a car Saturday on I-75 near Cincinnati is a registered nurse with a long history of traffic offenses and just had his driving privileges reinstated this month.

Jonathan C. Rike, 37, was arrested on counts of attempted murder and felonious assault, according to jail records. At an initial court appearance Monday in Cincinnati, Rike did not enter a plea, but his attorney argued that his client has a scarce criminal record, according to our news partner, WCPO in Cincinnati. Rike was ordered held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on $750,000 bond.

Dayton-area municipal court records show close to two dozen traffic citations against Rike over a period of years, many of them for speeding on highways.

Rike was cited on a drunk driving charge in Dayton in August. While that court case was ongoing, he was cited for driving under suspension Jan. 12 in Hamilton County. Days later, on Jan. 19, he pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident involving damage, and the drunk driving charge was withdrawn, according to Dayton Municipal Court records.

On Jan. 24, Rike requested "occupational driving privileges," and court records indicate those were granted beginning Feb. 1.

Rike lives on Corona Ave. in Kettering, near Shroyer, after previously living in West Carrollton. The state nursing board confirmed he has an active RN license, and Rike's Facebook page lists two hospitals where he said he has worked, including one in Cincinnati.

Rike is accused of firing a gun at a car Saturday morning on northbound Interstate 75 in Lockland, just north of Cincinnati. A bullet struck a car carrying a man and two teens, but no one was injured, according to WCPO.
