A male patron at the El Toro restaurant has been taken to a hospital by CareFlight after he was hit by an SUV following an altercation tonight inside the business.
An eyewitness said the man and a woman got into a fight at the El Toro, 2100 S. Limestone St., when the woman threw a bowl of salsa at him.
According to the witness, the man walked out of the restaurant and into the street, where he was hit.
Juan Alvarez, the manager, tells us the man and woman were having a disagreement when they came into the restaurant. Alvarez said the woman threw the salsa -- and a drink -- at the man within minutes of their being served.
She walked out and he went to the bar, the manager said. The man left the restaurant a little while later and was hit by the vehicle.
Springfield police Sgt. Matthew Buynak said police were still on the scene, gathering information.
We will update this story as we get details.
