MIDDLETOWN — A year after being cancelled due to the pandemic, the Ohio Challenge Hot Air Balloon Festival will return this summer.
The festival, which will include about 20 balloons, will take place July 16-17 at Smith Park in Middletown.

Festival organizer, David Pearce told our news partners at WCPO that no balloon rides or tethered balloon rides will be offered.
Still, food and vendors will be available both days, as will a firework display.
Following Gov. Mike DeWine announcing the end of the majority of health restrictions on June 2, Pearce said the event will be “back to normal.”
Parking at the airport entrance off of Germantown Road is available for $15 per carload. Spectators who choose to walk to the festival’s entrance at Smith Park will have a $5 admission fee. Children 13 years old and younger get in for free.
According to the Ohio Challenge’s website, Pearce and other organizers are in the final stages of planning the festivities.
