TRENDING STORIES:

A Dayton Police sergeant told News Center 7’s Malik Patterson that they are still searching for a person of interest.

They said the shooting victim is a kid but did not give the age.

When our news crew arrived, caution tape was being set up. A woman told officers that they were three shell casings on the sidewalk.

In a 911 call obtained by News Center 7, they told police what happened.

“A black guy was running, and he was shooting a gun at another guy, and the guy was running from him,” the woman caller said.”

She said that the shooter claimed that the other person stole something from them.

“(They) said next time would think twice or whatever. But the black guy jumped in a black car over here behind the apartments and took off,” the caller said.

Shortly after that call is when others started to check out what happened.

“I was dropping my best friend off, and me being nosy, I seen the cops, so I called her, and was like, something someone down the street,” said Jazz.

Jazz told Patterson that she saw a half-dozen officers, and cruiser lights on Warner Avenue.

She did not want to appear on camera but explained to our news crew how she saw the shell casings.

“I almost tripped over a casing, and when I looked down, there was a couple of them on the ground. So, I was yelling at the officer to let him know,” said Jazz.

Officers told Patterson that shooting victim was fine.

Neighbors say that they are upset and frustrated by this.

“When I hear a kid, I think of my kids, and just because he was fine doesn’t mean anything. You still have the mental health that you know that’s going to affect him, flashbacks, nightmares,” she said.

News Center 7 has contacted the Dayton Police Department to determined what led to the shooting.

We will continue to update this developing story.
