ODOT contractor to fix Beavercreek highway sign error

The Ohio Department of Transportation said the sign on I-675 North showing the exit to Ohio route 844 was brand new and done by a contractor that’ll have to fix and pay for it.

The contractor will likely fix it with an overlay, a sticker that’ll go over top of the signage gaffe.

ODOT says these kinds of mix-ups are rare, but when they happen they’re usually on the part of a contractor.

FIRST REPORT:

Two signs on Interstate 675 north showing the exit to Ohio route 844 are misprinted and now a fix will need to happen.

The signs show 844 as a U.S. route, however it is a state route, so the emblem printed on the sign is inaccurate.

The Ohio Department of Transportation said it is aware of the error and is working to determine if ODOT made the mistake, or if one of its contractors are at fault.

If the contractor is determined to be at fault, it will foot the bill for the fix. However, if ODOT is responsible the state will be in charge of paying for the repair.

A similar case in July 2015 ended with the contractor being at fault for a misprint on a sign along I-675 at U.S. 35, when the incorrect city name was placed on the exit to U.S. 35 east.

In May 2017, an exit sign to U.S. 40 off I-70 had to be fixed after “U.S. 44” was printed on the sign. A contractor also made the mistake in that case.

ODOT believes this latest sign mishap will be fixed with an overlay with the correct emblem. A spokesman said those fixes tend to cost a couple hundred dollars.
