News Center 7′s Xavier Hershovitz has reported from Atlanta since Friday. He said the minute the clock hit zero, you could hear the fans roaring outside Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The streets lit up with fans in scarlet and gray to celebrate the 2024 college football national championship.

“To be here with our team, our home team, being from Ohio, it was nothing better,” said Yemani Turner.

Hershovitz says Turner is from Dayton and lives in Georgia.

“When you grow up in Ohio, you know, you’re born and raised a Buckeye and actually being here in this moment when they win the championship, is surreal, you know? So, the moment is breathtaking, and it’s a life experience,” she said.

Logan Zitler lit up a cigar to celebrate. He told Hershovitz it was the environment inside that he could not get over.

“The environment was insane, couldn’t hear anything. Everyone was going nuts, where I was,” he said.

Hershovitz said that the atmosphere continued outside Mercedes Benz Stadium after the game. This was despite Atlanta’s uncharacteristic bitter cold.

“It feels great. Come on. It feels great. Come on,” said Percy Gordon. “I’m so proud of those young men and the coaching staff to stay committed and get this done, finish the mission.”
