Moraine man accused of attempted rape at Town & Country Shopping Center in Kettering

KETTERING — A Moraine man with previous public indecency convictions is facing new charges after a grand jury indicted him following accusations he exposed himself and placed his private parts on a woman at Town & Country Shopping Center.

Derek McGrew, 28, was indicted on kidnapping, abduction, gross sexual imposition, public indecency and attempted rape Thursday.

Investigators said McGrew exposed himself to a woman in the bathroom on the east side of the Town & Country Shopping Center on E. Stroop Road in early April, according to an affidavit and statement of facts.

Court records showed McGrew was accused of following the woman for two hours prior to exposing himself.

The woman said that McGrew tried to take her pants off, fondled her, pulled her hair and made lewd comments toward her during the incident. She was able to break free and report the incident to local security, according to police records.

McGrew was previously convicted for public indecency in June last year for exposing himself to a worker at the Dollar General on South Dixie Drive in Kettering. He also was convicted of public indecency and disorderly conduct for an incident in July, where he showed a worker a nude photo of himself at the Storage Inns of America on West Alex Bell Road.

McGrew was on probation for both his previous convictions at the time of his arrest earlier this month.

He is currently booked in the Montgomery County Jail, according to jail records.
