Miamisburg residents attend forum about lead

UPDATE @ 10:40 p.m. (July 12): Residents turned out to hear assurances that they shouldn't be concerned about lead found in the ground where the city of Miamisburg is replacing a wastewater pump station.

The work on the $9.79 million replacement project is expected to begin later this month.

Residents came out to a public information session to get their questions answered.

Project manager Steve Morrison said, “We’re already planning a lot of testing associated with the construction, but we’ll continue to do that.”

Morrison said one of the key issues is a safety and health issue for the workers.

EARLIER REPORT

Lead found in soil at a Miamisburg wastewater pumping station and the future of a multi-million dollar project to replace the facility will be discussed this week.

The case involving the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the city’s Eastside Wastewater Pump Station is the subject of a 6:30 p.m. forum Tuesday night.

Work was halted on a $9.79 million project to replace the pumping station on South Main Street near Arthur Avenue after lead was detected on the location, which many decades ago was a dump site, according to the city.

Miamisburg officials have said there is no indication lead-related risk to the public in city’s drinking water supply or through airborne contaminants, but more extensive environmental testing will occur.
