Miami County Walk to End Alzheimer’s

TROY — Nearly 175 people were in Troy this morning participating in the Miami County Walk to End Alzheimer’s event.

The Miami County Walk is one of more than 600 national walks that annually raise money for Alzheimer’s and other dementia research and allows the Alzheimer’s Association to provide free care and support services to local families, according to a release from the organization.

Today’s in-person walk raised about 39,000 dollars compared to the 21,000 dollars raised during the event last year when it took place virtually.

“We know that there’s about 30,000 people in the Miami Valley suffering with Alzheimer’s, so there’s about 120,000 caregivers in the Miami Valley, so the money that we raise goes to help support them. It helps to go towards research and it helps to go towards advocacy as well,” Sarah Frank, Walk Manager said.

Four other Walk to End Alzheimer’s events are scheduled around the Miami Valley this season in Shelby County, Springfield, Darke County, and Dayton.
