Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced Monday that his office received notice of a potential scam.
Deputies were contacted by an individual who indicated he received a phone call from someone who identified themselves as a deputy sheriff and advised there was a warrant out for his arrest, according to a release.

The caller advised him to go to the sheriff’s office and put money inside the kiosk using his own name.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Officer doesn’t call people regarding warrants requesting money. the release stated.

Grey urges caution when dealing with scammers on the phone, as those phone numbers can be “spoofed” to appear like a local phone number.
