DAYTON — A man was sentenced to at least 20 years in prison for killing a man and wrapping the body in a tarp.
James Hancock pleaded guilty to killing Matthew Thomas in 2023, and then dumping the body behind a Popeye’s Chicken restaurant in Montgomery County.

Thomas’ sister, Virginia Rowland, spoke in court, saying, “It is impossible for me to put into words the atrocious nature of the violence done to Matthew by James Hancock, or the agony this loss has caused our family.”
After hearing from the victim’s family, Hancock said he was sorry for his actions.
