The sunshine prevailed Saturday after a rainy start at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton’s 32nd annual Furry Skurry 5K.

“It turned into a beautiful day,” said Brian Weltge, Director and CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. “It started off a little scary because it was raining.”

Gauthreaux says over 700 people were in attendance including many first-timers.

“This is Ozzy’s first 5K,” said Megan Witwer, first-place female. “It was really just exciting to run with him.”

There was also a lot of excitement this year because it was the first time the event was held at Stubbs Park in Centerville.

Gauthreaux says while there were many 5K veterans present, some were encouraged to run a little faster at this one in particular.

“Oh yeah, it was a blast,” said Chad Fitz, first-place male. “I think he was pulling me along for a little while.”

In addition to the 5K, there was plenty of food, vendors, the pet costume contest, and even dog CPR training.
