SPRINGFIELD — The City of Springfield has announced the selection of its new police chief.

Captain Allison Elliott was appointed by City Manager Bryan Heck and with a plan for the City Commission to affirm the selection Tuesday, December 20, according to a city spokesperson.
She is the first woman to be appointed Chief of Police in the Division’s history.
“I am humbled and honored to receive this appointment and I look forward to this next chapter in public service,” said Elliott.
She has 16 years of law enforcement experience and oversaw the Uniform Patrol Division in her role as captain.
“Springfield is a vibrant community that is experiencing an exciting transition of growth and progress,” Elliott said. “It’s going to be a privilege to lead and work alongside a distinguished and dedicated group of people who take public safety to heart.”

She was among 32 applicants to the position following the announce retirement of Chief Lee Graf on September 12.
“Capt. Elliott leads with a true servant’s heart that will help to advance the Division forward,” said Heck. “Her passion for public service, the Springfield community, and commitment to the law enforcement profession shined through during every stage of the police chief recruitment process. We are confident that she will serve the Division, our organization, and the community, with excellence, integrity and distinction.”
The city received applications from candidates across the country.
