HARRISON TWP. — For most of the pandemic, Freedom Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Harrison Twp. has been giving out food to families in need each week.
The program, Farmers to Families, works through a partnership between the church and farmers from Indiana, who drive overnight into Dayton with food for the boxes.
When News Center 7′s Michael Gordon visited the program on Thursday, the church was handing out about 1,800 boxes in contributions. Since the program’s start, over 90,000 boxes had been given out.

Boxes contain fresh bread, eggs, fruits, vegetables and meat products.
“They have been coming with consistency to let us know there is a great need for those and so I am grateful that we could assist in this movement,” Pastor Frederick Hayes said.
Hayes said the program works well to build a fellowship in meeting the needs of people because of those involved.
“The truck divers have been awesome. Our volunteers have been great,” Hayes said.
Hayes noted that the program does not just serve those that come to the church. Trucks full of food are driven deeper into the community to feed homeless.
Harrison Twp. residents like Michelle Lunsford have been helped numerous times since the program began.
“The pastor and them, they have saved lives and I appreciate what they do in the community,” Lunsford said.
