Four new members completed a six-week training program that included coursework in Dayton Fire Department policies and procedures, according to a spokesperson.

There are over 30 more in training right now.

“We’re constantly training, constantly bringing people in and training them to become Dayton Firefighters and EMTS,” said Mike Fasnacht, Dayton Fire Department District Chief.

They each learned safe operation of medical transport units, patient care and an introduction to special operation such as technical rescue and hazardous materials.

“They have learned the operations of driving our vehicles in the City of Dayton,” said Fasnacht. “They’ve done five ride times to experience what firefighters do.”

The new members are Calvin Akerman, Amanda Mitch-Tolle, Justin Knipper and Brenden Styre.

“These EMT civilians will work solely with the citizens to treat people for illnesses and injuries,” said Mike Fasnacht, Dayton District Chief in charge of training. “They will not go out on fires. If they do, it will be to treat for injuries.”

These new members will be assigned to various medical transports units at fire stations across the City of Dayton and start Monday.
