KETTERING — The cheerleaders at Fairmont High School surprised a loyal Firebirds fan in an assisted living facility this week.

The cheer team surprised a female resident at The Carlyle House who has spent the past two years cheering on the Firebirds soccer teams from her windows.

The cheerleaders heard her rooting one day and began a tradition of waving at her during the games.

In a social media post, Kettering City School officials said the staff member working with the cheerleaders told the resident she had visitors. The resident did not believe the staff member. “Nobody ever comes to see me,” the resident was quoted saying.
