Xenia elementary student found safe after wandering off playground during recess

XENIA — A second-grader was found safe at another Xenia school after wandering off the playground at McKinley Elementary School.

Officers were first requested around 1:10 p.m. to McKinley Elementary School on Colorado Drive after police received reports a second-grader didn’t return to class after recess, emergency scanner traffic indicates.

Police received additional reports of a child wandering on the U.S. 35 bypass bridge shortly after taking the initial report of the missing student.

The student was found safe at Warner Middle School, two miles away on Buckskin Trail, nearly 15 minutes after the child was first reported missing, reports indicate.

The child was unharmed, according to Xenia police.

A call to Xenia Community Schools by this news outlet seeking more information has not been returned.
