Authorities say the driver, who was traveling south on Salem Avenue, crashed into a nearby bus stop, which sent debris all over the roadway. The driver then attempted to drive again after the first crash and ended up hitting a utility pole moments later.

Gasoline spread across the road and the vehicle was smoking due to the crashes. Firefighters used sand to soak the fuel up.

Southbound lanes on Salem Avenue between Free Pike and Grant Avenue were blocked for clean-up.

The driver is being treated for a reported head injury, officials say.

Officials are working to learn what caused the crash.
