DEA dedicates new academy class to Det. Jorge DelRio, 3 years after being shot in the line of duty

DAYTON — DEA dedicated its new agent academy class of 2022 to Detective Jorge DelRio.

News Center 7 previously reported that Dayton Police once again honored DelRio this year after his service to the department.

DelRio served 30 years at the Dayton Police Department and an additional 18 years on a DEA Task Force.

DelRio was shot multiple times while serving a search warrant as a part of a DEA Task Force on November 4th, 2019. He remained on life support until his organs could be donated.

He passed away on November 7th, 2019.

DEA honored the fallen member with a black guidon that read, “In memory of Task Force Officer Jorge R. DelRio.” The class of 2022 ran and marched behind a person carrying this flag, a spokesperson stated.

Some members of DelRio’s family were present at the graduation ceremony where they interacted with the academy class, the spokesperson said.
