DAYTON — The pandemic has been hard on small businesses, but one Dayton bakery has not stopped giving back.
This is why the Ohio Lottery Commission decided to recognize Megan Smith, the owner of St. Anne the Tart.
Thursday, Sandy Gudorf, the president of the Downtown Dayton Partnership, delivered Smith a wreath full of scratch-off cards from the Ohio Lottery Commission, as part of the Ohio Lottery Commission’s effort to “deliver merriness.”
“This pandemic has been very, very hard on our businesses,” Gudorf said. “But then when you have businesses that really shine through and do so many things to help others, it is just so refreshing and it is so important.”
She said earlier in the pandemic when DDP, The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, and CareSource started a grant fund for small businesses, Smith did not apply.
“When this funding came up for small businesses at the time we were still doing really strong in business and we knew other people were struggling more,” Smith said.

Instead, she contributed to the fund.
“That’s just an example of the many things that she does to support her neighborhood, our downtown community, and we’re just so happy to have her here and a part of our community,” Gudorf said.
Smith’s generosity did not stop there.
Even though she decided to temporarily close her bakery due to Montgomery County’s COVID numbers, she is still contributing. She just dropped off 100 treats at The Dayton Foodbank.
“I think the more we can give, it just makes the community stronger and when we need that help ourselves it will come to us,” Smith said.
She said she will be watching COVID numbers to decide when to open the bakery back up.
