The Sidney Fire Department responded to a fire alarm in the 1200 block of Wapakoneta Avenue at 8:38 p.m., a spokesperson for the department said.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found Elsner Painting, the local business occupying the space, in flames. Lockington Fire, Anna Fire, and Piqua Fire subsequently assisted in this fire attack.

First responders forced their way into the building through the main door and initiated an interior fire attack while “simultaneously positioning the aerial apparatus to gain access to the attic space,” the spokesperson said.

AES and Center Point were requested to secure the utilities. In addition, The Salvation Army provided canteen services for emergency personnel use.

Once firefighters extinguished the fire, a survey of the damage was taken, which purported $175,000 in estimated damages.

There were no reported injuries from civilians or firefighters.

The Sidney Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit led the investigation into the fire’s cause.
