When the temperatures are as low as they are and along with the possibility of rain, it could cause problems on the roadways.

The official start of winter is not for another two months but it feels like it outside.

News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott says bridges, overpasses and roads are the first to freeze when temperatures drop that low.

Just in case that happens, four staff members of Dayton Public Works checked on bridge decks to make sure there were no slick spots Wednesday morning at around 4:00 a.m.

They have been planning for these type of temperatures for months, according to Fred Stovall, Director of Public Works for the City of Dayton.

“We start prep around August,” he said. “Our goal is to be ready by November 1.”

Stovall said if you do leave earlier than normal for work today, go slow and keep a safe distance between you and the car in front of you.
