CENTERVILLE — The Cross Pointe Shopping Center in Centerville will be losing another one of its anchor businesses next year, but the city is optimistic about its future.
Marshalls will be moving into the former Fresh Thyme Market building in Sugarcreek Twp. and will be the latest business to leave the shopping center, following Bed Bath & Beyond, Earth Fare and A.C Moore.

“We feel that Cross Pointe is a vibrant commercial center for us in the City of Centerville. We’ve seen a lot of development there with the new residential apartment complexes and new businesses and what not. Obviously it’s a very important part of our economic development here in the city,” said Mike Norton-Smith, Development Director for the City of Centerville.
Centerville continues to work to try and get new businesses to come to town.
There used to be a Showcase Cinemas years ago at Cross Pointe, but now a luxury apartment complex sits where the theater use to be.
“Retail really has changed in the past couple years. Partially by the pandemic. E-commerce in particular. All of those businesses are making decisions about what’s best for their model,” Norton-Smith said.
The people News Center 7 talked with understand things change and stores come and go, but the latest one comes at a surprise.
“I feel sad because I know for some people this is really close to home and they need a place to go shopping close to home,” said Judy Vanderwal, Centerville resident.
Pretty soon, two of the three stores listed on the sign entering Cross Pointe are going to be sitting empty. The city hopes to have new tenants soon.
“We’ve been blessed by a lot of interest from new businesses over the last couple of years” Norton-Smith said. “There’s nothing but good things in the future for it.”
The city has not said if there are any prospects yet for the soon-to-be vacant Marshalls.
