Cedarfest held until Sep. 3 to celebrate Labor Day

The Village of Cedarville Cedarfest is currently being held this weekend and will run until Monday, Sep. 3, around 5:00 p.m.

The fest is celebrated during Labor Day weekend, and is coordinated by the Cedarville Cedarfest Committee, according to a release.

The fest started around 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast at the Cedarville Fire Department, followed by a softball tournament and a fishing derby. Other activities include a scavenger hunt, games and raffles, a parade, a cake walk, food trucks and much more, the release stated.

The Labor Day Parade will be held Monday, Sep. 3, at 1:00 p.m. and run down Main Street. It is sponsored by Cedarville University and the Cedar Care Village Pharmacy, and is run by the Chamber of Commerce.

Cedarville is known as the Birthplace of Labor Day, which was founded by a Cedarville man names James H. Kyle. When he became a U.S. Senator, he also became the leading spokesman for creating a national holiday that encouraged the nation to take a day off work.
